Far and away, I prefer new dolls. I have never gotten an ebay doll that I liked.

Well, Jess is the first new (and also post-mattel) doll and she smells so good, she is brand new, all mine (at least for some time, until DD grows up). But I just adore the PM doll's faces. I plan to buy a NIB Addy, though, and Marisol is arriving MIB too!!! Nellie and Elizabeth, I will wait to get them in NY (as well as Addy and maybe #26, that will depend if my mom will pay my travel expenses or not).

I think I love them both. The new Felicity is not as beautiful as the older one, I think. But I think Mattel Kirsten is beautiful, at least on photos.

A pre-loved doll can be a challenge, like my Laura Ingalls (ex-Molly). My Kirsten has silver-eye (it is only beggining to be silver) and so far she is my favorite, together with my red-haired Felicity, also pre-owned (a made in China doll with rosy cheeks, so cute).

    Oh, sorry, got carried away

I would agree that there is something about having a new doll that is yours and only yours, but what if your favorite doll doesn't exist new anymore? My absolute favorite is the old, pre-mattel, bright red haired Felicity. I ordered a new one, and although beautiful, she looks kind of rat-faced next to my ebay 1991 Felicity(that sounds kind of harsh, but that was my first thought upon seeing them together)x. There is something to be said for the chubby cheeks, and gorgeous hair of the first issue Felicity dolls. I would take my used ebay one any day!

So far I only have new AGs so they are probably my favorite. But I would love a cheap ebay doll to become a travelling doll sometime.

It's funny, because when I bought my first doll--ebay Kit, I felt a little disappointed and ended up wishing that I hadn't just saved $30, and gone with new. That still might be the case for that first doll. . . .

But, I loved Addy right away--she is PM and was in great shape and the searching process for just the right Addy on ebay is something you don't get when you just put the doll in your virtual shopping cart.

Molly has been a bit of a challenge, but is also PM and beautiful. I found a stray mark of ink on one leg, and I still loved her--as is (and it came right off with Magic Eraser). Her body seems to be not just dirty, but sun-bleached, and it doesn't make me love her a bit less!

So, although I thought I'd become a brand new girl, after these experiences, I think that I'm a preloved girl.

I know, Linda...you always do so well with your ebay dolls. I think my wanting new ones, goes back to when my DD was little. Every time she'd get a new AG, one of the best parts was opening that box together, and smelling in that new doll smell.

I've gotten three four dolls from ebay.

One...I paid more than AG price, because she was a pre-mattel Lissie. But she seemed old.

Another was a Gotz doll that was horribly dirty.

Also, a PM Sam, that smelled, and just wasn't quite right to me.

The fourth, was a white body Kirsten...and I guess I did like her. I just never really bonded with her. We have DD's PM Kirsten ( in mint shape) in her box in the storage room. She just seemed prettier to me. NO doubt, because she was DD's.

All in all...I just prefer that new doll thing. I really enjoy reading posts about everyone's pre-loved ebay dolls, though...

I think that it depends on the condition of the doll. I have a preloved Samantha and honestly she is prefect. Perfect hair perfect body really not one flaw. She is really beautiful , I got her from a board member for a very reasonable price. She was in her complete meet outfit so no extra money put out there. Samantha is actually our favorite doll. I happen to really like most of the meet outfits and would want a meet outfit so buying a doll for $60-$70 naked on ebay and then have to pay 22 dollars plus shipping for the meet outfit I would probally opt for new. If I found one in any condition for $ 25-40 bucks on ebay I would deffinatly take her and invest the money in restoring and buying new clothes. Just my thoughts.

I definitely prefer the used dolls. I bought my DD's new dolls and I just can't get into them like I do the older ones. Especially the restoration projects. Something about an abused dollie just tugs at my heart strings. I also don't really like the sound that the legs on the new dolls make when they bang together. The vinyl is just so hard.
